From the University of St. Thomas we offer a 7 week adult formation experience as we learn about systemic racism, the history that has made it possible, and the actions we can participate in to enact change in our communities.
What: a 7 week online course of video presentations that you watch at home and we come together as people of faith to discuss what we have learned.
When: Wednesday nights from 7-8 pm at the Parish Community Center May 19 - June 30. Register by May 11.
Why: As the body of Christ, when any of our members suffer, we all suffer. It's important for us to educate ourselves on systemic racism and work together to dismantle it.
Cost: The price of the class from St. Thomas is $50 but we are asking each household that participates to contribute $20, if you are able, and we will pay for the balance of the course. You are welcome to contribute more. Please pay using our online giving platform which you will be directed to once you submit your registration. You may also mail or drop off a check by May 11 to the Parish Office at 7087 Goiffon Rd, Centerville, MN 55038.
How long is the class? The class consists of 7 modules that take about 75-90 minutes each to complete. We will meet once a week on Wednesday evenings to discuss each class.
Can I go at my own pace? Yes, but if you want to join the discussion we ask that you watch that week's module before you join us.
What if I can't make every discussion? That's just fine. We are happy to have you join us for as many nights as you are able and you can always finish the class at your own pace.
Am I just going to feel guilty after I complete this course? No, because the class gives you a better understanding of the probelm through the lens of our Catholic faith AND prepares you to enact change in our communities.
Why would I want to do one more uncomfortable thing this year? This is the perfect activity for the Easter season as we renew our baptismal promise to be disciples of Jesus Christ. If not now, when? If not us, who?
This course sounds interesting and worthwhile, but I can't commit to Wednesday discussions. You may register directly through St. Thomas and complete the course in your own timeframe. https://stthomas.lmscheckout.com/Course/view/becoming-human-dismantling-racism-1
