Our Lady of Kibeho

40th Anniversary of the Appearance of Our Lady of Kibeho

Have you wondered about the story of the statue of Mary in the Parish Community Center to the right of the altar?  This is Our Lady of Kibeho.  She appeared in Kibeho, Rwanda from November 28, 1981 until November 28th, 1989.

We’ve learned about appearances in Fatima, Lourdes, Medjugorje, and other places, but relatively few know about these apparitions in Rwanda that were approved by the Catholic Church in 2001.

When asked her name, Mary told the 3 young high schoolers Alphonsine, Marie Clare and Anathalie that she was Mother of The Word. What a beautiful description of being Mother of Christ.

Mary had many messages during her appearance, but one of the most important was to again inspire people to pray the rosary, most especially to learn about the Seven Sorrows Rosary.

You can learn more about the rosary, including the Seven Sorrows Rosary at the website deceased parishioner Matt Wiederkehr made with his daughter Donna:  sevensorrowsrosary.org

Matt’s wife Bobbie, two daughters and several people from the Church of St. Genevieve join in a group of 3000+ people that pray the rosary on the Facebook page Matt created – The Rosary Guy. They have over 16 people helping lead the rosary and pray 3 times a day on weekdays and twice on weekends. On Saturday mornings they pray with young children from Pakistan. The team also prays for all the pray requests on the St Gen’s Prayer Chain. Archbishop Hebda joined them last year on the anniversary of Matt’s transition.
