I recently felt called to help out the parish more and thought about helping out with one of the committees or Parish Council. I joined the Liturgy Committee because I was asked, the time commitment was something I was comfortable with, and, being part of the choir, it seemed like a natural fit. Every time I have volunteered at St Genevieve’s I’ve learned more about our parish and have been blessed with new friends and a deeper connection to our parish community. If you even have one hour a week to give, consider sharing your time and talents with the parish. As Hillel,a first century Jewish scholar said, “If not you, then who? If not now, when?”
I am a Catechist because I value the Catholic tradition that was handed on to me though my grandmother, my parents and Catholic schools. As a retiree I feel I have an opportunity/obligation to pay back and share that gift. If we can open kid’s minds and hearts to friendship with Jesus they will be on the path to holiness/wholeness. Besides it’s a lot of fun!
I sing for many reasons. This church is my Family. I love to sing. Have been singing in church music groups since I was in grade school. Praising God, with the voice He gave me. For me it is also a family tradition. Both my father and my sister were choir directors. Both have passed, they sing too, with us in Heaven. I enjoy it most when I can hear the congregation singing along with us. We are a family then.
Growing up, I was fortunate enough to attend Catholic school. During my time there I had a number of teachers and a priest that taught me how welcoming the Catholic religion can be. I serve because I want to be one of a child’s first memories in how the Catholic Church is another home and a place where they are encouraged to learn and grow.
